Have you ever wonder how to buy the best-looking asparagus and how to keep them fresh longer; well, here are some helpful tips.
How to choose asparagus
If you're shopping for fresh asparagus, look for bright spears with tightly closed tips. If the roots look dry, that's an indicator that the asparagus is out of date.
How long asparagus last fresh
Fresh uncooked asparagus lasts about 3 to 4 days in the fridge on its own.
In a jar with water, you can expect the spears to keep quality for about ten days; up to 2 weeks, all depend on how fresh they were when bought.
How to season asparagus
Here are some great ideas for flavors that will complement your instant pot steamed asparagus
- A light sprinkle of red pepper flakes
- unsalted butter
- A light drizzle of balsamic reduction or thick balsamic vinegar
- Toasted sliced almonds
- Lime/lemon zest and/or lime/lemon wedges
- Sprinkle of goat cheese or parmesan cheese
- A small handful of fresh mint or parsley, finely chopped
