These tips for cooking in the air fryer will help you to get to know this small kitchen appliance.

An air fryer is all you need to know about the best tips for cooking with an air fryer.

The air fryer can cook food in a super quick time and can often be a healthier way to make some of the much-loved food we all enjoy.

Another bonus is that they are energy efficient, which helps keep costs down. But cooking in the air fryer can be a little daunting for some people.

It is a great appliance when used in the right way; however, some of us are only utilizing it for frozen food when there is a whole host of things we can do in our air fryers.

Cooking in your air fryer is easier than you think. It can turn boring ingredients into something delicious, and there are some amazing tips to help you cook food in your new small appliance quickly and easily. So here are some of the top tips for cooking in your air fryer.

Tips for cooking in an air fryer

Preheat the air fryer for meat.

Some assume air fryers need preheating, just like ovens, to reach the right temperature before cooking. In this case, no! You don't necessarily need to preheat your air fryer as it rapidly gets up to the temperature set so that your food is thoroughly cooked.

There is only one exception. While, again, it isn't necessary, it can help to preheat the air fryer when cooking meat. This helps to ensure that the meat is cooked all the way through. It also helps to create juicy and flavorsome meat.

Choose the right size air fryer for your family.

    • Air fryers can come in all shapes and sizes. Smaller air fryers are ideal for one or two people, but larger families need a bigger size. Choose an air fryer that fits your family's needs.
    • You can get some bigger air fryers that even have two baskets so you can cook two things at once. Or larger baskets to cook up a huge portion of food or homemade chips. Having the right size of these small appliance means you won't overfill it, and everything will be cooked as it should be.

For extra crispier results, use oil halfway through cooking.

    • Some food you cook in the air fryer, such as frozen food, often doesn't need oil before starting the air fryer. But, other food you might cook in there will do.
    • When you make homemade chips, crispy potatoes, and ingredients like vegetables and meat, you will need to spray them with a little oil before you start cooking.
    • However, in some cases, you may want crispier results, and the secret way to do that is to add extra oil halfway through cooking.
    • Using a spray oil is the best way to oil the food you cook in the air fryer, and if you do want to add extra during the cooking process, make sure you remove the basket completely from the air fryer before spraying and shaking.

Shake the air fryer basket as often as you like

    • Many recipes and instruction manuals for air fryers will tell you to shake the air fryer basket once during the cooking process. But you don't need to stop there.
    • Shaking the air fryer basket a few times will help you to get crispier results and also enable you to ensure that the food is evenly coated in seasonings and oils and will become golden brown all over.
    • Shaking the air fryer basket won't delay the cooking because you don't lose any heat when the air fryer stops. So shake away to get crispier results.

    Liners, foil, and bread

    • If you want to keep your small appliance clean and avoid washing it every single time, then protecting the air fryer during cooking is key. Many people love the idea of parchment liners.
    • They fit various air fryer basket sizes, so you can choose what works best. You can also use aluminum foil as a disposable drip tray to reduce grease buildup.
    • There are also silicone reusable options available if you don't like the idea of throwing things away. However, a great eco-friendly choice that is also compostable is to use some bread at the bottom of your air fryer. Simple and easy to use without the investment of liners.

Make use of the air fryer in the summer.

    • Cooking in your air fryer is nothing like standing over a hot stove or having your oven on. The oven itself can be difficult to handle during the summer months when your home is already at a high temperature due to the weather change.
    • So take advantage of using your air fryer in the summer months. You can easily whip up meat, easy fish recipes, and potato dishes that can all be served with a fresh salad. It is so simple and will stop you from overheating when cooking in the summer months.

    Get adventurous

Finally, make sure you are a little more adventurous when it comes to cooking with your air fryer. It works great for frozen foods like chips and nuggets, but it can cook much more. Instead of frozen, why not make your own chips?

Cook marinated meat or fish in minutes, or even enjoy crispy vegetables that burst with flavor. The air fryer is easy to use, and this site offers plenty of great recipes to try.

I hope this has given you some confidence when cooking in your air fryer.
