How to season chickpeas?
In this air fryer chickpea recipe, I use simple ingredients like Italian seasoning and smoked paprika to make a yummy savory snack with a hint of smokiness.
You can use any combination of spices you like or even use salt and pepper if you prefer. Or even better, change things up every time you make chickpeas in the air fryer.
You can also use any spice blends you have on hand.
Also, you can try different flavor combinations like pizza flavor, Mexican spices, butter, and garlic to change things up. Or even a sweet variety like coating the chickpeas in cinnamon sugar or give it a fall twist with pumpkin pie spice.

How to make crunchy chickpeas in an air fryer?
Before you get started, you want to make sure the chickpeas are rinsed and drained. Then pat them dry with paper towels.
Step 1. Place the drained chickpeas between a paper towel or a clean kitchen towel to pat dry. In a medium bowl, add the chickpeas, olive oil, Italian seasoning, paprika; toss to combine.
Step 2. Pour the seasoned chickpeas into the air fryer basket; shake the basket to have a single layer.
Step 3. Set the air fryer at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until desired crispiness. Shake the basket halfway through.
Step 4. Enjoy as a snack, over salad, or as you prefer—store leftover at room temperature for 2 to 3 days in an airtight container.

Recipe Tips:
- Watch them after the 10 minutes mark to avoid overcooking them since every air fryer is different.
- Air fried chickpeas won’t stay crispy if you store them in an airtight container if they are still warm. To avoid soggy chickpeas, make sure they are fully cool before storing them.
- Don’t store air-fried chickpeas in the refrigerator because they become chewy, and don’t use plastic bags to store the crispy chickpeas.
- If you’re using canned chickpeas, rinse your chickpeas thoroughly, then dry between paper towels or using a clean kitchen towel.
What to make with crispy chickpeas?
Most people eat crispy chickpeas as a snack on their own.
If you haven’t tried to add roasted chickpeas in your salad, next time, try adding some air-fried chickpeas for that crunch in your salad.
A meatless day with some crispy chickpeas tacos, and don’t forget the slaw for that vegan version of the fish taco.

How to store air-fried chickpeas?
Store leftover roasted chickpeas air fryer at room temperature. After they have cooled down, add the crispy chickpeas to an airtight container to keep them crisp.
If the chickpeas are crunchy all the way through, they will stay crispy longer. But if they are chewy in the center, they may soften while stored.
If they lost some of the crispiness, you could reheat them in the air fryer for 2 to 5 minutes at 400 degrees.
